Door Installation in Hendersonville, TN
Entry, interior and double doors hung to swing and latch right, with trim, hardware and finish work included.
A door is a precision job
A door that sticks, rubs, leaves a gap or will not latch is almost always an installation problem, not a product problem. The frame has to be perfectly plumb and square, the gaps around the door have to be even, and the hinges and strike plate have to be set exactly. A few millimeters off at the top shows up as a door that drags at the bottom.
Double doors raise the bar. Two doors have to meet in the middle with an even seam, close flush and lock together, and they also share one frame that has to hold both. Juan installs double doors as well as single ones, and the detail in getting two leaves to line up is what separates a good installation from a frustrating one.
Exterior doors take on weather as well. They need flashing, a sealed threshold and weatherstripping so wind and water stay out. We often hang doors alongside window replacement and painting, so openings are finished in one pass.
Signs a door needs replacing or reinstalling
- A door that sticks, rubs the frame or will not close without pushing.
- Daylight visible around the edges of a closed exterior door, or a draft near the threshold.
- Soft or rotted wood at the bottom of an exterior door or frame.
- A lock that will not line up with the strike plate.
- A double door whose two halves do not meet evenly.
- A new door opening that you want to add or widen in a wall.

How we install a door
- Measure and choose
We measure the opening, confirm the swing direction and discuss style, material and hardware, including whether a prehung unit or a door slab suits the frame.
- Remove the old door and check the opening
The old door and trim come out, and we look for rot, a crooked frame or damaged framing that would affect the new one.
- Set the frame plumb and square
The frame is shimmed, checked with a level in every direction and secured so the door will swing and close evenly.
- Hang and adjust
Hinges and the door are fitted, and we adjust gaps and the latch so the door closes quietly and locks properly.
- Seal, trim and finish
Exterior doors get sealant and weatherstripping, and interior trim and hardware are installed, with paint touch-ups where needed.
What affects the cost of door installation
Doors are quoted per opening after we see the frame and the door you have in mind.
Type of door
Interior, exterior and double doors each take different amounts of time and materials.
Prehung versus slab
Hanging a slab in an existing frame is different work from installing a prehung unit with a new frame.
Condition of the opening
Rot, a crooked frame or a damaged threshold have to be repaired before a new door can hang properly.
Hardware and locks
Handles, deadbolts and specialty hardware are priced separately.
Trim and finishing
New casing, painting or staining add to the job.
Changing the opening
Adding or widening a door means framing a header and patching walls, which is a larger project.
Why homeowners choose us for doors
We hang doors to be right, not just in. Juan checks plumb and square at every stage because he knows a door that is off a little will show it every time someone uses it.
We handle the surrounding work. New casing, drywall patches around an altered opening and paint are all part of what we do, so the door looks finished the day we leave.
Where we do this work
We install doors in Hendersonville, Goodlettsville, Old Hickory and nearby homes.
Questions about doors
What is the difference between a prehung door and a slab?
A slab is just the door. A prehung door comes already hung in its own frame. Slabs work if your existing frame is square and solid, while prehung units suit frames that are damaged or out of true.
Why does my door stick only in some seasons?
Wood swells with humidity, which is common in Tennessee summers. If the door sticks every year, the problem may be a frame that is out of square, or paint buildup on the edges.
Are double doors harder to install?
Yes. Two doors must meet evenly, close flush and latch together inside one frame. It takes careful shimming and adjustment of both leaves.
How do you keep an exterior door from leaking air and water?
The threshold is sealed, the frame is flashed where it meets the wall and weatherstripping is fitted around the edges so the door closes against a continuous seal.
Can you add a door where there is not one now?
Often, yes, but it involves framing a header and patching walls, and the position may affect wiring or plumbing in the wall. We assess it before quoting.
Will you change the lock or deadbolt?
Yes. We can fit new hardware and set the strike plate and bore so it lines up properly.
