Concrete Contractor in Hendersonville, TN
Narrow concrete walkways and sidewalks, poured on a prepared base and finished to last.
What concrete walkways need to last in Tennessee
Concrete looks permanent, and it can be, but only if the work underneath is done right. In Middle Tennessee that means dealing with heavy clay soil, plenty of rain and a few freeze-thaw cycles every winter, all of which push on a slab. A walkway needs a compacted base, proper slope for drainage and joints that let it crack where you want it to.
Our concrete work is deliberately narrow in scope: walkways and sidewalks about 5 to 8 feet wide, as long as the job needs. That focus is what we do well. For anything wider or larger, like a driveway or a big pad, we will tell you honestly whether it is the right job for us.
Concrete ties into the rest of a property. A new deck needs a path to reach it, a fence needs gates that open onto something solid, and an entry needs a safe, even surface. Planning the concrete with the other work keeps the grades and heights consistent.
Concrete and the projects it connects to
Walkways rarely stand alone. Here is how they fit with other yard work.
Why drainage and base matter more than thickness
People often ask how thick a walkway should be. Thickness matters, but drainage and base matter more. A slab poured on soft ground or sloped toward the house will fail regardless of how thick it is.
Pouring is also time-sensitive. Concrete does not wait, so the ground, forms and access need to be ready before the truck arrives. We prepare in advance so the pour goes smoothly.
Concrete questions
What is the difference between a walkway and a sidewalk?
A walkway is typically a path on private property, while a sidewalk is the paved strip along a street. Sidewalks in the public right-of-way may be governed by city rules, so check with your city before work.
How wide should a walkway be?
Many walkways are 3 to 5 feet wide, and some run wider. We work in runs roughly 5 to 8 feet wide, and can talk through what suits your use.
Do concrete walkways need sealing?
Sealing is optional but can help protect the surface from stains, de-icing salts and moisture. We can discuss it when we finish the job.
Why does concrete sometimes crack even when it is done right?
Concrete shrinks as it cures, so some cracking is normal. Control joints guide cracks into tidy lines and a well-prepared base reduces random ones.
Can you remove an old walkway before pouring a new one?
Yes, removal of old concrete can be part of the job. We include it in the quote when we see what is there.
