Deck Builder in Hendersonville, TN

New decks and deck repairs built to handle Middle Tennessee weather, from a family-run crew that builds from the posts up.

Building a new deck versus keeping an old one

Deck work falls into two groups. New construction starts with a plan, footings and framing. Repair and replacement starts with an honest look at what the old deck still has to give. Our deck work covers both, and the first step in either is the same: a site visit and an inspection of what is, or will be, holding the deck up.

Tennessee weather is the reason to be picky about construction. Spring rains, humid summers and winter freeze cycles keep wood damp and move the soil beneath footings. A deck that is not built or maintained for that gets soft boards and loose rails sooner than one that is.

The photos on these pages are from decks we have built and repaired. They show the stages most people never see, like posts braced plumb before the framing goes on, which is where the long-term strength of a deck comes from.

Why timing and care matter with decks

Decks are easiest to schedule outside the wettest weeks, and booking before the spring rush gives you a better choice of dates. Repairs, though, should not wait. A soft board or loose rail is a safety issue, and it only gets more expensive the longer it is left.

Whichever service you need, the crew that quotes the job is the crew that does it. That keeps decisions about size, height, railings and stairs simple, and nothing gets lost between a salesperson and a builder.

Decks questions

When is the best time to build a deck in Tennessee?

Spring through fall is the busiest window, but decks can be built in any season with dry spells. Booking early gives you more flexibility on the start date.

How long does a wood deck last?

It depends on the lumber, the construction and how it is maintained. Regular sealing, keeping debris off the boards and fixing small problems early all extend its life.

Should I stain or paint my deck?

Stain or a clear sealer is usually best for wood decks because paint can peel on surfaces that people walk on. We can recommend a product after the wood has dried.

How do I decide between repairing and replacing my deck?

If the framing is sound, new boards and rails may be enough. If joists, posts or the ledger are rotted, replacing may be the better value. We inspect before recommending either.

Do I need a permit for a new deck?

Often, yes. Requirements depend on size, height and whether it attaches to the house, and vary by city and county. Ask us early so it does not delay your project.
