Deck Builders in Hendersonville, TN
Wood decks framed, decked and railed for Middle Tennessee weather, from the first post to the last screw in the rail.
A deck is built from the ground up
A deck looks like boards on top, but its strength is underneath: footings that reach stable ground, posts set plumb and braced, beams and joists sized for the span, and a ledger that attaches to the house the right way. The photos on this page follow a real deck from bare posts with diagonal bracing, to framing, to new boards and finished railings.
Middle Tennessee is tough on outdoor wood. Hot, humid summers and wet springs invite rot and mildew, and cold snaps shift the soil under footings. Many yards around Hendersonville also slope toward Old Hickory Lake, which means decks often sit high on one side and need solid posts, bracing and stairs.
We build wood decks and handle the details that make them last. If an existing deck is the problem, see deck repair and replacement. Building a fence or patio around it? Our fence work and concrete walkways finish the yard.

When it is time to build a deck
- You want an outdoor space for the family and the back door opens to a drop or a small slab.
- A sloped or walkout lot that needs a platform with stairs to be usable.
- An older deck that is unsafe, undersized or beyond what repairs can save.
- A screened porch or entry that needs a larger, safer landing.
- You are updating the house for resale and an outdoor living area adds appeal.

How we build a deck
- Site visit and design
We walk the yard with you, measure, and talk through size, height off the ground, stairs, railing style and where the deck meets the house.
- Layout, footings and posts
Footing locations are laid out and set, and posts are placed plumb and braced in position while the framing goes on.
- Framing
Beams and joists are installed at the right spacing and attached to the house with proper flashing at the ledger so water does not get behind it.
- Decking and stairs
Boards are fastened across the frame and stairs are built with solid stringers and treads.
- Railings and finishing
Rails and balusters go in, screws are checked and the deck is cleaned up. We talk about when to seal or stain the wood.
What affects the cost of a new deck
Decks are priced by the project after we measure and see the site.
Size and height
A larger deck needs more lumber, and one set high off the ground needs taller posts and more bracing.
Material choices
The decks pictured here use pressure-treated lumber. Other boards and railing styles change cost and upkeep.
Stairs and railings
Multiple stairs, long railing runs and custom designs add framing and finishing time.
Ground and site conditions
Slopes, rock, clay soil and poor access change how footings are set and how materials get to the yard.
How it attaches to the house
Siding type and what the framing looks like behind it affect how the ledger is attached and flashed.
Permits
Many decks need a building permit depending on size and height. Requirements vary by city and county.
Why homeowners hire us to build their decks
We build from the posts up, and the photos on this page are our own jobs. The bracing, framing and finished rails you see are not stock images, they are work we did.
Railings matter more than they look. Building codes generally call for guards when a deck is more than 30 inches above the ground, and a family deck has to be safe for kids and grandparents. We build rails to be solid, not decorative.
Where we do this work
We build decks in Hendersonville, Gallatin, Goodlettsville and across the Nashville area.
Questions about decks
How long does it take to build a deck?
Most decks take a few days to a couple of weeks of work, depending on size, height and weather. Rain delays are normal in Tennessee. We give you a realistic schedule at the quote.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Often, yes. Permit rules depend on size, height and whether the deck attaches to the house, and they vary by city and county. Ask us about permits early so they do not delay the start.
Why are the posts braced during construction?
Temporary diagonal braces hold posts plumb while footings cure and the frame goes on. You can see them in the photos above, and they come off once the structure is solid.
Can you attach a deck to a house with vinyl siding?
Yes, but the siding has to be cut back and the ledger flashed so water cannot get behind it. Doing this correctly is one of the most important steps in the build.
When should a new wood deck be sealed or stained?
New pressure-treated wood needs time to dry before sealing. We tell you when to treat it and what to look for as it weathers.
How high can a deck be without a railing?
Many codes require a guard once the walking surface is more than 30 inches above the ground. Even lower decks are safer with rails, and we can build them to your plan.
